“A major wildlife trafficker in the Republic of Guinea in Africa has been sentenced to maximum prison term available to the judge. Despite heading up a wildlife trading ring that could keep a well sized zoo stocked the judge could only pass a 12 month prison term – the maximum sentence for the crime in the country.
Ousmane Diallo and his two accomplices are thought to have traded in chimpanzees, lions, leopards and endangered tropical birds as well as other species over the last 10 years. Diallo is thought to have been responsible for the trafficking of 500 endangered chimpanzees – over 6% of the entire country’s chimpanzee population.”
