On Tuesday 9th March 2021 officers from Sussex’s Rural Crime team accompanied by a NWCU Investigations Support Officer executed a warrant issued under COTES (Control of Trade in Endangered Species) at an address in the Sussex area relating to the illegal trade in endangered species.
During the search of the property a number of items were examined and a number of derivatives and species listed under CITES, including a Sawfish Rostrum, Turtle shell, crocodile skull and a taxidermy caiman, were seized pending examination and further investigation.
The joint investigation is being carried out by the Sussex Police Rural Crime Team and NWCU who will be looking into the legality of the trade in these items.
