‘Lancashire police are calling on residents in rural areas to report suspicious activity in a bid to protect wildlife in the county during lambing season.
Wildlife crime officer Mark Thomas said: “We know at this time of year most species are producing young and are at their most vulnerable so I’m appealing for the public to help us combat wildlife crime by reporting concerns to the police.
“As it is lambing season, we need to remind people that the control of crows such as magpies is legal at this time of year and that Larsden and Ladder traps and their derivatives should be left alone. There have been instances of these traps being deliberately destroyed in the misguided effort to stop this form of legal pest control so, if people are unsure, please leave traps alone.”’
