A recent statement issued by Sussex Farm Watch urged people to be aware and said: “There have been several reports of poaching and lamping. Please call police if you see anything suspicious.
There have been reports that someone has been seen on a regular basis, lamping with an air rifle at Ninfield Recreation Ground.
The traditional image of a rural poacher taking a pheasant for the pot is far removed from the lucrative criminal business of modern poaching say Sussex Police.
Police have worked closely with rural communities and partner agencies in recent years to tackle the problem in the county and an increasing number of poaching-related crimes are now being put before the courts.
Game dealers, restaurateurs, hotels and public houses are being advised to check that they are not buying illegally killed game.”
