“Police have launched an investigation after illegal crayfish traps were found at a popular tourist spot.
A council ranger discovered four of the devices near Galloway Sailing Centre at Loch Ken on Friday.
Wildlife crime co-ordinator Inspector David McCallum said: “Illegal traps pose a danger to other wildlife.
“These ones were held down with lifting weights so they were definitely not a professional job.
“It is an offence to put out a trap without a licence and the only legal ones in the area are licenced by Scottish Natural Heritage to the Galloway Fisheries Trust.
“Any sort of animal could be attracted and if they get in, it wouldn’t get out.”
