“Police yesterday launched a clampdown on hare coursing.
The UK-wide Operation Lepus is designed to counter the barbaric and illegal pursuit of hares with hounds. It will see officers undertaking targeted Perthshire patrols in a bid to catch coursers in the act.
And groups such as the National Farmers Union Scotland and land and estates owners will be asked to assist in raising awareness.
Hare coursing is a treated as a UK wildlife crime priority, with those committing the crime known to travel far and to use lurchers, greyhounds and whippets to hunt by sight.”
