“Police have launched an investigation after a peregrine falcon was found shot by the side of a major road.
The distressed bird, a protected species, was spotted by a passing driver near the East Lancs Road between Leigh and Golborne.
He stopped to help the falcon and took it to a vets practice in Bolton , where it was found to have gunshot wounds.
The bird is still receiving treatment for its injuries, police said.”
